Shoo I can’t believe how crazy things have been. Planning a wedding ain’t no joke ya’ll. I missed blogging, I missed interacting with you guys. Boy am I glad it’s over…don’t get it twisted though, I LOVED being the bride. I’ve written a piece on the actual day over at my new bridal blog Bride-In-Africa.

A lot of people were nervous about how I was going to wear my hair on my wedding day. As you all may have noticed (especially those who’ve been following the famous TV show Our Perfect Wedding) the weave has become a norm as a wedding hairstyle lately. Either that or braids tied back in what my friend and I call the “happily-married bun”. One of my hometown neighbors even went as far as asking me at a funeral two months ago “So wena are you going to relax your hair the week before the wedding or a few days prior?” I just looked at her and went “And why would I want to do that?”. We both chuckled and life went on. The only person that wasn’t worried AT ALL was my hubby. He’s always been a big fan of my hair & had been asking me to keep it natural for our wedding.

To style my hair, I prepared it by washing & conditioning with the Dr Miracle products (which I’ll review later) I received just 3 days before the wedding. What a lovely wedding pressie!! With my damp hair covered under a doek, I then went to Ntombi and took along my new Dr Miracle leave-in conditioner and heat protectant – I knew there was going to be a whole lot of blowdrying and possibly flat ironing. We separated the hair into two sections – the middle part and the sides. We then twisted the top middle section & bantu-knotted after applying the leave-in. Afterwards, we blowdried the sides & back; flat ironed & plaited it at the back. I didn’t look like a bride then so put my doek back on & carried on with my day. Even Ntombi was nervous about the outcome but I was pretty confident as I had it all in my head. On the morning of the wedding after I did my make up, I took off the doek untwisted, ruffled the twist-out up, gooied that butterfly pin and a few blingy pins at the back….DONE. I loved my hairstyle & so did all the people that mattered.

Some of my bridesmaids have natural hair while the others relax their hair. Initially I wanted those with natural hair to wear it out while the others wore braids. They all sat down, discussed this and decided they were all going to wear twist extensions for an almost uniform look. I immediately gave it my stamp of approval and am glad I did so because they turned out beautiful on the day.
